Two-time heavyweight champion Joshua Released from Hospital in Nigeria Following Deadly Road Accident

Former heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua has been discharged from hospital, Nigerian authorities confirmed on late Wednesday. The athlete was caught in a vehicular crash near Lagos on December 29th, a tragic incident that resulted in the deaths of two of his team members.

Recovering from Minor Injuries

Joshua had remained in the hospital while recuperating from non-critical injuries, his management team stated earlier on Monday. A government official, Gbenga Omotoso, announced via a post online that Joshua was declared medically stable to “recuperate at home”.

“The boxer and his mother were at the mortuary in Lagos this afternoon to offer their condolences to his two departed friends as they were being readied to be sent home,” Omotosho said.

Remembering the Victims

The victims of the crash were named as Latif Ayodele, a fitness coach, and Sina Ghami, a performance coach. It was also noted that the boxer was “heavy-hearted and full of emotions over the passing of his two close friends.”

His release from the hospital comes as the sports world had expressed its support for the star in the aftermath of the heartbreaking incident.
