Reigning Aryna Sabalenka Wins Consecutive WTA Player of the Year Honors.
World number one Aryna Sabalenka has been voted the Women's Tennis Association top performer of the year for a second straight season.
The 27-year-old captured four tournament victories – the most on tour – including retaining the US Open this past September against Amanda Anisimova to secure her fourth career Grand Slam singles title.
A Season of High Performance
Over the course of the tour, Sabalenka reached a circuit-leading nine championship matches, with losses coming to Madison Keys in the Australian Open final in January and Coco Gauff in June's French Open final.
The star player also triumphed at the Brisbane International in January, the Miami Open in March, and the Madrid Open in May. She remained the whole season as the world number one, ending 2025 atop the rankings for a second successive year.
In July, she became the first athlete to exceed 12,000 WTA ranking points after Serena Williams did so nearly a decade ago.
Historic Achievements
Sabalenka concluded the season with a 63-12 win-loss record, and collected a record £11m in earnings.
She earned almost 80% of the votes submitted by global tennis journalists.
On 28 December, she is set to play 2022 Wimbledon runner-up Nick Kyrgios in a high-profile mixed-gender exhibition match with the aim of "raise women's tennis to a higher level".
Additional WTA Award Winners
- Returning Star of the Year: Switzerland's Belinda Bencic, twenty-eight, was voted after taking extended hiatus after the birth of her first child and returning to the sport earlier this season.
- Newcomer of the Year: Canadian teenager Victoria Mboko received the award after beginning the season ranked outside the world's top 300 and climbing to the eighteenth spot.
- Doubles Team of the Year: Katerina Siniakova and Taylor Townsend were selected after capturing their second Grand Slam title together.
- Biggest Leap of the Year: Amanda Anisimova was named after reaching five finals.
Last week, Carlos Alcaraz took home three honours in the Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Awards, including the season-ending top rank award, while Jannik Sinner was chosen as the fan favorite for a third time.
